Arizona State vs. NC State 2017 live stream: Time, TV channel, and how to watch Sun Bowl online

The Arizona State Sun Devils had a sneakily good season. After starting off 1-2, they went on to defeat a pair of top-25 teams — Oregon and Washington — before claiming in-state superiority over Arizona in their regular season finale. They’ll have the chance to finish 2017 on a three-game winning streak when they face the North Carolina State Wolfpack in the Sun Bowl Friday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on CBS (live stream via CBS Sports Live or fubo.TV).

Former Jets coach Herm Edwards will take the reins from Todd Graham after the game, ushering in a new era for the Sun Devils. NC State, on the other hand, held on to Dave Doeren despite Tennessee’s overtures and can use a postseason win as the catalyst for a big 2018.

Arizona State vs. NC State news:

  • So … ASU’s had an eventful pre-bowl period.

It has been a whirlwind of “WHAAAT?” in the days following Arizona State’s decision to fire Todd Graham after a 7-5 rebound season. That decision was questionable in and of itself, considering how rarely firing a winning coach actually works out how you want it to. But things have only gotten weirder since.

  • Former Duke head coach Ted Roof is now part of NC State’s staff.

Dave Doeren has tabbed former Duke head coach Ted Roof as the 10th member of the NC State Football coaching staff, effective January 1, 2018, the first day that NCAA rules allow FBS coaching staffs to expand from nine to ten full members. Roof will hold the titles of Associate Head Coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator, while also sharing duties with Aaron Henry in coaching the safeties and nickels in the defensive secondary.

  • Arizona State’s early signing day was still a success despite upheaval at the top.

Considering the departures of head coach Todd Graham, offensive coordinator Billy Napier and defensive coordinator Phil Bennett, locking in 11 signees on the first day of the early signing period is extremely impressive on the part of Arizona State and its athletic administration.

All three coordinators and coaches are crucial in constructing and maintaining the recruiting infrastructure, so retaining nearly all of the early commitments in their absence represents a step in the right direction for head coach Herm Edwards and his staff.

  • NC State’s presence in the top 25 this fall is just part of the Wolfpack’s rising tide of athletics.

Congratulations fans of NC State Athletics fall sports, these are your salad days, Bojangles days. NC State had every fall sport enter the NCAA postseason for the first time in the history of the program. You can thank our Athletic Director Debbie Yow for this achievement, as it doesn’t happen without her leadership.

Seriously, why Edwards?

Edwards last coached in the NCAA in 1989. He’s 54-74 as an NFL head coach. While his unique personality could give him an edge on the recruiting trail, this is still an extremely weird hire — and we won’t get to see whether it pays off for at least eight more months.

Arizona State vs. NC State prediction:

NC State is the favorite, but Arizona State is utterly unpredictable, especially given the recent turnover at head coach. Stick with the Wolfpack, but tread lightly.
